Calligraphy artwork is a poem by Nizar Kibbani on war, in the shape of the large ancient statue ISIS gutlessly torn down.
No matter how fierce you attack your efforts are futile
For Iraq’s history isn’t confined by single square mile
FULL POEM
So the Islamic State smashed up artefacts, relics and statues
Declaring thuggery against Time, Adam, Christ and the Jews
Comedic it all seemed; the extremists wearing denim blue jeans
Achieving their goals through Chinese tools and Western means
They shattered the pieces of history into pieces with so much hate
I thought the statues were to blame for fucking their mothers on a date
Vicious they bulldozed the history of Babylon and Ashur
In the name of Islam and chasing Virgins (in Arabic called ‘Hoor’)
News flash: there won’t be any virgins lining up for you destroyers of life
Nor will raping the land land you paradise so enough of your sword and knife
And;
No matter how hard you attack your efforts are futile
For history of Iraq isn’t confined by a single square mile
